A Healthy Dose
Case Study
The Product
The goal of the project was to design a medication tracking app. Aside from med management, A Healthy Dose features a reward system (positive reinforcement) to help users stay motivated in taking their medications on time.
Project Duration
February 2023 - March 2023
The Problem
The Health Policy Institute(2021) reported 66% of U.S. adults take at least one prescription medication. It has also been reported that just half of those people take their medication on time.
The Goal
Design A Healthy Dose app to help users remember to take their medications on time.
My Role & Responsibilities
UX/UI designer and researcher, from conception to final prototype
User research and interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs
Why?
For this project, I wanted to focus on a common issue that I encounter when providing mental health therapy for my clients, forgetting to take medication. Research shows that therapy is more effective when combined with medication but noncompliance to medication is high among clients with serious mental illness(SMI). My research focuses on finding out main reasons for nonadherence and working on ways to help clients and their caretakers prioritize medication compliance.
A Healthy Dose was created to not only help clients and their caretakers take medications on time but also focuses on positive reinforcement strategies to assist. Through positive affirmations, support from a therapist, and medication education, A Healthy Dose emphasizes motivation as the key to medication compliance.
